Valentina’s work is based on the surprise of what is possible to make with something simple and thin: a thread. Thanks to a strong feminine tailoring background, she brings this tradition into her pieces, finding new dialogues between jewelry and textile. First of all, the unique pattern of a spool of cotton is frozen into precious metal structures, to make it last forever. Moreover, the jewels are weaved, using gold and silver wires and handmade pliers, employing the ancient Filigree technique. This has been successfully taught all around the world by Valentina herself, who created the original Italian Contemporary Filigree Course.
What is more, playing with the worlds of metals and fabrics, she creates an original mixture that makes the observer question if the item is either a precious garnet or a jewelry piece. These hybrids call into question the concept of wearability and preciousness, thanks to the material they are made of and the craftsmanship involved. She weaves thousands of meters of threads on a hydrosoluble fabric in order to create light and wearable art. It could be worn either as a jewel, thanks to its metal components, or it could be sawn onto your garnment, creating something different. Her jewels are ephemeral and evanescent, the light passes through each piece highlighting both the delicacy and the strength of her manual skills.
