Aim of my work is the expression of the sculptural character of the vase conceived as an element consisting of shape and surface that create a relationship with the surrounding space or between individual elements of a group. The slowness of coilbuilding technique allows the idea of surface to be generated together with the shape using different materials and tools that define its tactile qualities. After the bisque firing the piece is finished, smoothed, grated and prepared for the second one, the raku firing: it will be an unglazed (naked) smoked terracotta with a small range of chromatic effects, only black, white and grey.
This limit turned out to be a challenge for new goals achieved through small variations in the process: cooling times, thickness of the slips, shape and size of the reduction chambers, quantity of sawdust are decisive elements for the final result, in which intuition and experience are often linked to the unexpected and every piece can be considered a new departure rather than a point of arrival. About my formal references, these are always related the classic, the ancient, the primitive, the fossil world, to what time has modified, preserved and delivered. Representations of memory. And, undoubtedly, living in Venice, a city of stones eroded by time and smoothed by water represents a daily source of suggestions and references.
